One of the funding sources for remediation of AMD in Deckers Creek is the federal Environmental Protection Agency's "319" program, named after a section of the Clean Water Act. These funds are designed to address nonpoint source pollution. AMD from abandoned mine lands is considered nonpoint source pollution. In order for the state of West Virginia to spend 319 money on Deckers Creek, a watershed-based plan (WBP) must be on file. In a sense, putting the report together was a hoop we had to jump through. However, it was an excellent opportunity for us to compile all the information on AMD sources in Deckers Creek and create a plan to address it. Modifications and improvements to the plan are expected as the years go by.
